Well here we are at the first tee.
I can tell you that everybody gets nervous
on the first tee.
And there are a few things you can do about it
to relieve that nervousness.
First thing you can do is before you get to the first tee,
do something that I’ve seen a lot of players do,
and it makes a lot of sense to me.
Why don’t you practice the last shot on the practice tee
with the driver that you’re gonna hit on the first tee.
Start with your putting, then your short clubs,
and then practice with your driver.
That gives you an immediate feel from the practice range
right to the first tee.
Now there are a couple of other things when you’re about
ready to hit the ball you can think about.
One is what we described before, is take a deep breath.
And then let it out and then hold it.
That helps relieve some of that pressure.
It flushes out some of that nervousness.
The second thing is actually something to think about
when you’re making the swing.
And that is, my good friend Jack Nicklaus said,
he said, he tries to make sure that he completes
his backswing and he starts down at the same speed as he
ends his backswing, with right there.
So he doesn’t rush the downswing.
And don’t rush down.
That’ll help get rid of the first tee jitters.
