Technique Tip: Work in a Seated Position for Hamstring Stretches in Cool Down during Pregnancy

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecology recommends avoiding lying flat on the back for extended periods of time during pregnancy. At the end of Pure Barre Classic, we perform a hamstring stretch section that does involve lying flat on the back. Many pregnant women can tolerate this stretch comfortably for the majority of their pregnancy, but others may experience a heaviness feeling in the chest from lying on the back even for a minute or two. If you experience any heaviness in your chest during the hamstring stretch series during our Pure Barre Classic cool down, we encourage you to work upright instead. Remember to listen to your body and ask your teacher for modified options to try in your next Pure Barre Classic class!
