Dustin asks Maria Palozola, of what causes him not to be able to end up with his weight on his front foot when he hits a long iron or even a fairway wood. He says he has a tendency to fall backwards instead of finishing with his weight on his weight on his front foot.
Maria explains this is a very common problem with lower lofted clubs and one that is mostly a result of our subconscious telling us that we need to “help” the ball get into the air because we don’t have a lot of loft to work with. She explains that, by trying to help the ball in the air, we fall back on our rear side as we try to scoop the ball.
Maria emphasizes that we have to train ourselves to realize that a low lofted club, such as a driver, still has enough loft to get a ball airborne if you hit down on it. You have to trust that the ball will get up in the air and focus on hitting down and making a nice, balanced weight transfer to your front foot.
