Okay. So should we swing a hybrid like a standard iron or a fairway wood? Well first of all let’s just explain the difference in the two swings. A standard iron would be played with the ball position in the middle of the stance, and the swing would be a little bit more upright, the swing would go more up and we would hit down and through. If we played a fairway wood, we would get a bit more be hanging the ball – so the ball server forward and that would create a much more low take away, a much more shallow swing. So what little luck we’ve got, comes to the back of the ball and we sweep it up. So there’s two differences in the swings.
Now a hybrid should be swung like a standard iron. We’ve got a slightly longer shaft, the ball position – the most of the ball position should be over center or just slightly ahead of center and the reason for this is we’ve got a lot of weight in this head. So what we want to do is put the ball in the middle because we want to play it like a standard iron. By putting the ball in the middle, will encourage the weight to come down and through and that’s what we want to do with a hybrid. We don’t want to try and hit it and lift it up in the air, we want to hit down and through. So the set up would be ball position, central or slightly ahead depending on the loft of your hybrid.
The set up as far as the grip and the weight of your stance would be the same as usual as you would do with that sort of mid iron, that standard iron. From here you take the club back, you take it back low and slow, transferring the weight to the right side. And from here you’re focusing now on hitting down and then through the golf shot and with the weight on the right foot transferring the lot weight through onto the front side till you finish here, that’s the end finish. So in practice, the set up to the ball and focus on what I’m doing, hitting down and through. So over the ball, swing the club back nice and slow and low and hit there and the weight is finished on my left-hand side.
So you can see from that demonstration there, hit down and through and let the loft of the club do the job for you. In other words let this hybrid do the work for you. So what do we do with hybrid, we swing it like a standard iron, not a fairway wood.
