While modern golf instructors seem to cover nearly every aspect of the sport, few focus much time on how pelvic tilts relates to swings.
With most instructors vaguely mentioning the pelvis’ position left of target during the proper following through, there isn’t much else being taught about this very vital element of every golf swing.
Players that have followed George Gankas golf lessons over the past few years attest to the great improvements they’ve found in their game after putting these lessons to practice. Known to the world as the GG Swing Method, George Gankas golf strategies have become increasingly popular, resulting in Gankas being ranked among the top 20 golf coaches in the world.
Most golfers assume neutral posture when setting up at address. This neutral spinal positioning increases mobility during the backswing transition, making it much easier for the player to maneuver through this portion of their swing. Once the player has moved on to the downswing transition, a reserve of power can be utilized by pushing off of the ground while squatting.
In order to maximize the power in our downswing, golfers must first rely on flexion in their hips, and then change this movement by transitioning into hip extension. During this portion of the golf swing, players greatly benefit from pelvic tilt. Being able to tilt your pelvis during the flexion of your hips through to hip extension will allow easy rotation.
Taking control of the movement in your pelvis during golf swings will create smooth movements, that allow more accurate timing in your swing, reducing the power expelled during the previously mentioned extension of the player’s hips.
Players that start in S posture over neutral posture may experience a loss in their ability to control the pelvis. Caused by the pelvis tilting anteriorly, players that spend extended periods of time sitting will experience weakened or strained muscle groups that typically provide support during a neutral posture at address.
These weakened muscle groups can be retrained by the player in order to promote a neutral position at the beginning of every golf swing.
