Tour Draw Tip: Left Arm High, Right Arm Low

Hello golfers, PGA Teaching Professional Todd Kolb here, and one of the great things about playing the game these days and teaching this wonderful game is that we have technology that helps us understand exactly why the golf ball curves. Now the best part is that as an instructor, I can make a simple adjustment to any golfer’s setup, and I can change their ball flight immediately. And what I’m going to do right now is I’m going to share with you one of my all-time favorites, it’s what we call Left Arm High, Right Arm Low.

Let me go ahead and demonstrate. When you get set up to hit your golf ball, I want to make sure that your lead arm—which is going to be your left arm for a right-handed golfer—is slightly higher than your right arm, because when your left arm is slightly higher, what’s going to happen is you’re going to swing the club up and to the right, and the ball is going to turn over.

Let me show you: regular setup, left arm high, right arm low; make my regular setup. The ball’s going to go up and it’s going to turn over; it’s going to be a nice little natural draw. Now there’s other things that you can do in your setup that can change your ball flight immediately; be sure to check out my next video so you can understand how a little bit of a change to your hip position will also help you draw the golf ball.
