Rickie Fowler on Why He Uses Two Putting Grips | Putting Tips | Golf Digest

Rickie Fowler uses a standard grip on long putts and switches to cross-handed on short ones. If you think your putting needs a shake-up, maybe this’ll work for you, too.

This year I’ve kind of gone back and forth
between putting cross-handed and with a traditional grip.
I always have better feel with the normal grip,
but I make a better stroke cross-handed.
So with the cross-handed grip,
I actually get into a better setup position,
my forearms sit properly, the right one sits
just under the left, and I guess a tendency of mine
is with the normal grip, my right forearm
will tend to creep up a little bit too much
and make it tough to make a proper stroke from there.
So definitely better feel with the normal grip,
but cross-handed I’m in a much better setup,
make a better stroke, my forearms are in better position,
my right forearm sits just under my left,
which is where you’d like it to be.
I get into a better setup and over the ball
more consistently than I do with a normal grip.
