This is a putting or chipping stroke motion analyzer with continuous feedback of club position. A laser pointer affixed to the putter shaft displays putter movement by beaming a red dot of light onto a wall.
It shows the direction of the club face and the position of the club in the stroke, at the same time.
For direction or face control training, the laser is aimed at a target on the wall and a stroke is made. The laser dot descends on the backswing and rises on the forward stroke, passing by or over the target with a visible degree of error. This error is the directional error resulting from opening or closing the club face in comparison to address position. You can see every little wobble in your putting stroke. (No need to hit a ball)
For distance training, the laser dot movement displays relative swing length against a scale on the wall. Since the backswing length is a major factor in ball velocity, along with club acceleration, it is worthwhile to exactly control the length of the backswing, either consciously or subconsciously. PutterLight provides a very quick and accurate way of measuring backswing lengths so that you can learn to produce the lengths just by feeling or memory choice.
The simplest way to use the PutterLight is to turn one’s head and directly watch the laser dot on the wall, or you can stand very close to the wall to eliminate head turning. You can also watch the laser dot through a common cosmetics mirror placed on the floor near the club head.
It works on short swings: putting, chips and pitches, in which the club does not go back too far or generate too much speed. Horizontal is about the maximum backswing length because beyond that the laser dot could be moving too fast to see.
