Transcript
A fundamental to a good golf swing is being able to transfer your weight correctly in the downswing from your back foot to your front foot. It’s important for many reasons. Being able to transfer your weight correctly will help you re-position the club on the downswing on the correct swing plane, generally increasing the accuracy of your shot. Also, being able to transfer your weight correctly will help increase your club head speed. It’s a fundamental to a par field golf swing. Also, shifting your weight correctly will help you strike the ball solid. Now, I see many players working on this aspect of the game with not much success. They can’t make the change, they still hang back on their right foot. They lose par, they cant strike the ball solid. They get the club off plane. But from my experience, when they understand how to transfer the weight correctly, it’s not as difficult as what they might think. Transferring your weight correctly is very similar to walking. If your right foot is behind your left and you’re walking forward, to transfer your weight to your left foot, you’ll push off your right foot. You’ll push off your back foot to move the weight forward and to walk forward. A transition in the golf swing is very similar. Once you’re at the top of your backswing, you’ll push off your back foot to transfer your weight to your lead foot. It’s a really important move in the golf swing, but when you understand how, it’s not that difficult a movement. So next time you’re practicing, just be aware of how to transfer your weight correctly. You’re simply going to use your back foot or if you’re a right-handed player, your right foot, to push off, transferring your weight to your left foot.
