swing plane (Utilizing the Combined Plane Image for golf swings)

①8-4swing drill
During the 8-4 swing drill in chart 1, players need to imagine that they are looking at the center of a clock and swing the club shaft from the 8 to 4 o’clock position of the dial. Players swing the club with both wrists fixed and use their body rotation.

②9-3swing drill
With the 9-3 swing drill in chart 2, players again need to imagine that they are looking at the center of a clock and swing the club shaft from the 9 to 3 o’clock position, keeping their wrists fixed. Players can learn how to move the club shaft to an impact area by using the rotation of their body.

③Lcharacter swing drill
With the L character swing drill in chart 3, the player can learn how to cock the wrist and the arm by using the club shaft and the arm to make a L shape on the backswing side and a reverse L shape on the follow-through side. This swing exercise forms two vertical planes that position the club shaft perpendicularly on both sides.

During the L character swing drill, the cocking operation of the wrist and the arm is combined together with the rotation of the body learned from the 9-3 swing.

When placing the club head in front of the body, the cocking operation of the wrist and the arm draw a “V” shape. The V shape illustrated by the club is combined with the leaning of the upper body, so that a club shaft at the top of the swing and finish becomes perpendicular on the reverse side.

④Bracket swing drill
Using the Bracket swing drill in chart 4, the lift-up operation can be learned by using the club shaft and the arm to make a bracket shape on the backswing side and a reversed bracket shape on the follow-through side. At that moment, it is important to make bracket shapes on both sides of a vertical plane.

During the bracket swing drill, the arm movement makes a bigger V shape than the L character swing drill when combined with the rotation of the body learned from the 9-3 swing.

⑤Full swing drill
With the full swing in chart 5, the final form of the arm and the body’s rotation are combined.

The final form of the arm is to carry a club shaft on the left shoulder though the vertical plane, and the final form of the body’s rotation is a turn to the player’s preferred position.

⑥Chop-Chop swing drill
In this drill, it is necessary to do a movement that makes the club shaft move up and down two times on a vertical plane on the right side. When the player swings down the club shaft on the third swing, they start the turn movement and strike the ball.

The arm’s movement during this drill imitates the stabbing of a stake on the on the right side of the body.

During the swing, turning the body too rapidly against the velocity of the club head as it falls down from the vertical plane will bring about a topped shot. Conversely speaking, slow body rotation against the club head brings about a fat shot.

The Chop-Chop swing drill” allows the player to adjust the speed after the club shaft moves from the vertical plane to the impact plane.
The player can use the Chop-Chop swing drill in conjunction with the L character swing drill, the Bracket swing drill and the Full swing drill.
