Step by step guide on how to mow like a pro!

Mowing System

1. Safety – First and foremost safety is our #1 Priority. OURS AND OTHERS!!! There is absolutely no cell phone use when driving a truck. Only perform jobs at the fastest speed you are completely comfortable with and are still able to get the job done right. The trucks and trailers are extremely dangerous on the roads. You have to understand the responsibility you are taking on when getting behind the wheel. Almost everything we use to do our jobs have sharp moving parts that are capable of taking off fingers, limbs, or even killing someone. Also consider where debris could be thrown from our machines.

2. Mowing

2.1. Mowing –

Start by outlining everything blowing the grass back into the middle away from all objects. Be sure to use the flap whenever needed to ensure nothing gets sprayed with grass. This means make 2 to 3 passes around everything. The border of the property, around the house, fences, concrete borders, and anything else that may be in the lawn such as play sets, trees, mulch beds, gardens, sheds, etc. Once you complete outlining you can begin to strip the turf. Try to develop a pattern over time for each lawn. Use low spots, slopes, the drive way angle, and obstacles to determine the best direction to stripe. Try to make as long of passes as possible because each turn you make is costing us time. Always beware of distance and direction that the grass is discharging, especially when turning. This is still true when you are making your turns in the previously outlined area. Break the lawn into pieces and continue to mow each piece in full before moving on to the next section. This will help eliminate small patches from being forgotten. PROSLIDES – NEVER touch concrete, blacktop, or gravel, EVER!

2.2. Trimming & Edging-

Start on the front right of the property. You edge to the left and trim to the right until you are proficient enough at these tasks to do them any other way. With this method you should edge the street and follow it up to the sidewalk and continue to the property line. Hop over to the other side of the sidewalk and continue edging back to the drive and towards the house. Hit any objects out in the turf as you go, specifically when you are closest to them. Continue around the house until you reach the other side of the drive and finish the job by edging your way to the front left of the property on the street.

2.3. Blowing-

If CLUMPS are present, or there are obvious grass clippings laying on the surface of the cut grass quickly blow these areas before following the protocol below so we don’t end up doing the same job twice!

Start by blowing the grass off the street back towards the turf we just mowed, edged, and trimmed. Once all the grass is off the street continuing blowing up the grass in the same direction off the sidewalk and up the drive. DO NOT blow the grass against the garage door it may stain. Direct the grass off the drive from side to side when approaching the garage door. Make a trip around the house looking for anything that needs blown off…like build up along the foundation, a back patio, a play set, CHECK THE SIDING, CHECK CARS ALSO, mulch beds, tree rings, lawn furniture, kids toys, and ANYTHING ELSE!!!
