How to hit a golf ball, like the pros!

Hyo Joo Kim has the best golf swing ever. It’s the perfect golf swing.

Notice where I illustrate the “top of the backswing” the body stops moving at that point and only the arms and club keep moving … unconsciously creating torque. Most people have no idea when to stop the backswing. The conscious backswing stops about half way back the rest of the swing is torque space.

The Magic Position is when the shoulders and shaft are parallel to each other and at a 90º angle to direction of force or the direction that you are swinging the club. Notice it’s no at the target, it’s down, forward and out.

The ball is not struck by facing it as many people think because that how we address it. The ball is struck to the right of us with the club as much to the right as we can get it. This is easy if you think of driving a tent stake into the ground at angle with a sledge hammer. Like illustrated in the video.

You can also imagine a ball floating in the air that you’re going to hit down through the ground – as you miss this ball and hit the real ball your hands will be properly ahead and you’ll have a full, relaxed and extended release.

Looking at it now I see that the position she’s in when she hits the tent stake into the ground is very similar to the position anyone would be in when they’re pounding that game at the fair where you have to smash the giant hammer onto the lever to make the weight slide up the pole and ring the bell. ‘Know the one? See it? The hammer, or in this case club is way out there to the right.
