To improve your distance control, find a relatively straight putt on a green or use a carpeted floor, and position four or five golf balls in a row at intervals of your choice (two feet, five feet, ten feet, etc), setting a physical target zone beginning at the hole and extending beyond another two or three feet. Beginning at the ball nearest the hole, rehearse your setup as well as your practice stroke, focusing on the distance from the ball to the middle of the target zone. Roll the putt, and calibrate your stroke for each of the successive putts with the goal of all balls ending up in the zone. If any of them come up short or go long, start the drill over and repeat until successful. Change the intervals and repeat the drill from a variety of distances to improve the consistency of your speed and feel.
